YOGA: ASANA & WRITING: A WEEKEND WITH GUEST TEACHER PEACH FRIEDMAN

ASANA & WRITING: A WEEKEND

WITH GUEST TEACHER PEACH FRIEDMAN

SEPTEMBER 15TH-17TH 2017

Rediscover your physical body as a vehicle to access your voice // Sense into your fat, skin, blood, bones, and organs…and listen to what they’re trying to tell you // Hone your language to more accurately reflect your message // Practice embodiment techniques to unlock silenced voices from within // Unravel lost inner landscapes and stand on a solid physical foundation: land in your own body. Know where you are now. Speak from that place.

In this 3-day program, acclaimed author and experienced yoga teacher, Peach Friedman, will progressively take you through a writing and movement immersion experience.

Through asana, movement, exercises + conversation, Peach will guide you through somatic awareness practices as well as physical movement exercises and offer specific writing prompts to inspire your engagement with the material.

Delicious, nourishing, locally grown and home-cooked organic food will be prepared with love and served for lunch on Friday and Saturday as well as a snack on Sunday. An extraordinary compliment to the other work of the days together.

This course is ideal for you if you’re a…

  • Yoga teacher seeking a better understanding of the power of language, and want to speak effectively, accurately, and confidently, both when teaching as well as in your life;

  • Yogi/dancer/mover who wants to express the profound experiences you have while in your practice;

  • Writer who wants to get out of your head, and experience the body’s perspective;

  • Human interested in learning to speak or write more powerfully, and connect more honestly with your body.

YOGA: Summer Camp: August 10-13

Summer Camp For Yogis

Adults need to play too after all!

Summer is great to set some time aside just for you and your practices. It is a great time to get into the dirt of your body, the sweat of a good practice and the deliciousness that only a wild and spacious summer can bring.

Our time together will be restorative and exploratory. Grounded and fun. Expansive and connective.

Each half-day of yoga camp will begin with a 2-hour (ish) full-on asana exploration that deepens your foundations of practice and widens the possibilities of your body and breath. These classes will follow a progression and array of poses. Over the four days we will explore standing poses, arm balances, backbends, hip openers, inversions and forward folds. Following these lively and sane classes, will be a short break with time for tea, coffee, snacks (you are welcome to eat right out of the garden) and chatting. The second part of our day will be a creative arts project related to our mornings practice. Projects will be related to the theme of the day and involve drawing, painting, writing, singing, dancing, collaging and maybe even some bread baking.

Think really good yoga in the morning with awesome people in a great little home-spun spot, a little snack, then creative time you rarely give yourself.

OUTDOOR: Eat Your Backyard - Spring Foraging Series

5:30-7pm every other Wednesday through the Spring

(April 19, May 3, 17, 31, June 14)

Spring is here! You will be amazed at how much is already in bloom here on the Front Range, and how quickly that will change--one set of flowering plants giving way to another, and then another and another after that in a symbiotic dance.

On these guided hikes you will get to know the wild, edible and medicinal plants growing right here in our own Boulder backyard. The series will focus on locating and identifying native trees, shrubs and herbs. Depending on what we find, there may be opportunities for a trail snack or tea!

You will come away from these evening hikes reconnected to the earth and inspired by its seasonal bounty. Grab a friend, or your kid, or your partner, and come forage with us! You are welcome to come to all or just one of these Wednesday evening sessions.

Nitty Gritty:

Expect: Moderate hiking with ample stops to study trees, shrubs and herbs all around us.

Bring: Water, layers and a notebook. On rain or shine.

Cost: $10 cash or pay here.

ONLINE: Dirty Little Secrets

This Years Theme: body image and images of embodiment

We often begin yoga as a way to turn towards the Light, the Goodness and the deeper understanding of who we are. Whether we begin in hopes of healing an injury of body, or a broken heart, or unsettled soul, we set out on this journey as a way to remember our wholeness, lighten our beings and feel Good in life and body.

And then…

Somewhere along the path of practice we discover its not all rainbow and unicorns “out there” or “in here”. We see the limitations of a yoga practice. We get injured. We get hurt. We get a broken heart. We become jaded. We get angry. We loose faith.  We act out. We ignore. We pretend. We come up with great strategies of non-resolution. We become part of a yoga culture for better and for worse.

So what do we do with all THAT?

Atlanta, GA: Embodied Psychology for Yogis at Yoga Collective

This is NOT the lame-o Psych 101 from college.

Register here.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:

Saturday 12 – 2:30pm
Body Mapping and Inner Trailblazing: Somatic Resourcing, Embodiment Practices and Asana
Intermediate Group Practice

This intermediate group practice is for those with asana knowledge looking for a refined and nuanced approach to deepen and advance their practice of awareness in asana as well as the asanas themselves. We will explore fundamental postures through new lenses of somatic resourcing and embodiment and use these tools and related concepts to make more challenging poses accessible. Expect a solid and full practice, lots of laughter, inner exploration, depth of contemplation and more sense of self.

Bring: An open mind, your body, water, journal, your heart.

Saturday 4 – 6:30pm
Embodied Psychology for Yogis: A Walk through the Psyche

Just as there are phenomena occurring in nature all around us, there are natural phenomena occurring within our minds as we develop through life, form relationships and interface with our world. Yoga is a vehicle for contacting those ways and changing our patterns. But what are those phenomena anyway? This is a walk through the psyche.

We will explore through lecture, dialogue, and experiential play the following concepts of psychological phenomena and how they emerge, reflect and change on the path of Yoga: The Ego, The Witness, Projection, Transference, Spiritual Bypass, Fusion, Enmeshment, Individuation, Differentiation.

Bring:
An open mind, whatever you need to be comfy like a mat, water, snacks, journal.

Sunday 9 – 11:30am (Held at Gina’s house in Dunwoody)

Embodied Psychology For Yogis: The Ways We Connect (for Teachers and Teachers-in-Training Only Master Session)

How do we create connection to our core selves, to the spirit world, and in our relationships? How can yoga be a practice that connects us, anchors us, and helps us find meaningful relationships internally and interpersonally? How do we connect more deeply with our students even when we feel tired or worn out?

Yoga drives to the edge and back over and over again. Helping us create connection where perhaps there was numbness. Helping see light where there was once utter darkness. Let us explore and build answers to the questions above, deepening our inner capacity to be with and connect to our teaching and to our students.

We will explore through lecture, dialogue, and experiential play the following concepts that nurture and enhance our ability to connect to ourselves, our families, our friends, our students and coworkers: Mirror Neurons, Empathy, Compassion, Unconditional Positive Regard, Witnessing, Non Violent Communication Skills, Boundaries, Scope of Practice and more.

Sunday 1 – 3:30pm
Embodied Psychology For Yogis: The Seeds of Our Being

If everything went according to the perfect plan of our lives, we may have never found yoga. Natural human development is not an isolated event but is dependent on the relationships from our earliest presence in these bodies and the bonds formed. Come explore and begin to understand how our earliest experiences repeat themselves and can be healed through the practice of yoga.

We will explore through lecture, dialogue, and experiential play the following concepts critical to understanding the important early seeds and stages of human development. Holding Environment, Contact, External Psychobiological Regulator, Attachment.

Bring:
An open mind, whatever you need to be comfy like a mat, water, snacks, journal.

Register here.

Cost: $60 session, $220/weekend; $55 session/ $200 full weekend early bird (ends Sept 30th)
